Well, we're finally here in Texas, and are finally getting settled in. Nick just started his primary flight training this week, so he'll be pretty busy for awhile. Our apartment is right on the bay and we have a beautiful view of it from every window. Corpus Christi is a pretty cool place, but we just wish we had more time to explore it before Nick started his training. On the journey from Florida to Texas, however, we had a lot of fun. Here are some pictures:
We stopped in New Orleans to check it out, and a woman pulled us aside and wrote us a ticket for looking too decent, for being party poopers, and for Nick not shaving. Then she asked us to buy a hat for a charity, so I got a new hat and Nick got off with a warning.
Then one night we were looking for a place to stay, and we saw these signs for a casino and thought, "hey, food", so we followed the signs for what seemed forever, which led us into the middle of scary nowhere, and then the casino suddenly loomed out of the darkness at us. We went inside to check it out, and found that there wasn't a hotel attached, but we did find Nick's happy place: FREE COKE. I swear I could hear "Dream Weaver" playing when he saw it. So we got some free coke and left.
We also stopped at this really cool plantation, which had the most beautiful grounds I've ever seen. We were able to walk around them for quite awhile, which was really nice. We didn't go on the house tour to see the inside, but the grounds were more than enough to keep me happy.
When we finally made it to Texas, we were going to stop in a few places along the way that looked promising. Stopping in one town that was supposed to have museums, art galleries, and a lot of things to see ended up being a ghost town. Downtown, all the shops were boarded up and out of business, the skyscrapers empty, and there wasn't a soul in sight. Really kinda sad and creepy. But, we did find the World's Largest Fire Hydrant there, so I guess it wasn't a total loss.Well, that's it for now, hopefully we'll have some more pictures to post soon!
